Make a Difference Through Play and Learning

Volunteers are an essential part of the Children's Museum in Oak Lawn, helping create meaningful experiences for children and families. Whether you’re a teen looking to earn service hours or an adult wanting to give back, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities available.

We do not accept court-appointed volunteers.

Youth Volunteer Program (Ages 13-17)

The Youth Volunteer Program provides teens the opportunity to engage with museum visitors, assist with events, and develop leadership skills. Youth volunteers may help with:

Leading art and science activities

Assisting families in museum exhibits

Helping with special events and community programs

Supporting museum staff with cleaning and resetting exhibits

Volunteer hours are flexible during regular museum hours and special events.

How to Become a Youth Volunteer

Step 1: Fill out a Youth Volunteer Application.

Step 2: Register for a Youth Volunteer Orientation.

Step 3: Attend orientation and submit a signed waiver from a parent or guardian. The waiver must be turned in before you can start volunteering.

Already turned 18 and still need service hours for school? You can still volunteer! The process is slightly different—email heather@cmoaklawn.org for more information.

Adult Volunteer Program (Ages 18+)

Make a lasting impact by donating your time and talents to help the museum serve thousands of children and families each year. Individuals, organizations, and corporations can support our mission by volunteering in various ways, including:

Engaging children and families in exhibits

Assisting with museum events and special programs

Helping with behind-the-scenes projects

All adult volunteers must complete a criminal background check before volunteering.
